Long time no see! I am exactly as inconsistent with this newsletter as I feared I would be, lol. My goal for 2024 is to be more on top of these things! Once a month has got to be manageable right? Right.
I guess first, let’s catch you up on the last 3 1/2 months, because a LOT has happened!! First, and the main reason I have been slacking on all my author duties, is that I got a new job! I now work part time at B&N! It is truly a dream job come true. The only problem is that it doesn’t even come close to paying the bills, lol. But what is money when you are surrounded by books all day long, and get paid to talk to people about your favorite romances and fantasies?? Seriously though, if any one knows where I can find a second job I owe you one, lol.
That happened in October, and then mid December my roommate and I unexpectedly ended up moving in three weeks! I am currently typing this from my much nicer, much bigger home and I couldn’t be happier. We wanted to move in April, but then we immediately found the perfect place, and within 48 hours of us saying “lets plan on moving in April” we had already signed the new lease with a move in date of Jan 5th. (This was on Dec 13th). Like 5 days later we found and confirmed our third roommate. ADHD at its finest I swear. (We call ourselves the zoom roomies and tbh we are just as chaotic as you would imagine, lol.)
Anyways, with all that going on I have been burning at the end of my rope mentally, just trying to get through the day to day. But now let’s move on to the very fun, very exciting news I have for ya’ll!!
First off, Call of the Sea is up on NetGalley! I didn’t think this was going to happen, butt it has and I’m just so incredibly excited and grateful. I did not have the mental capacity - or quite frankly the reach - to run the kind of arc tour I wanted for this book, so getting it onto NetGalley is just about the best I could have asked for. It’s available now for request through release day 2/13/24!! You can request it here!
And onto the other exciting news, I will have in person events for Call of the Sea!
I’m so incredibly grateful that this is something I am able to do. Having an author event, let a lone TWO author events, was something beyond my wildest dreams! Let’s get into it! Releasee day, Feb 13th, 2024 at 7pm I will be at The Ripped Bodice in Culver City, CA. And I will be joined by Emma R Alban!!! Emma’s debut—Don’t Want You Like A Best Friend, a sapphic victorian parent trap historical romance—just came out last Tuesday, Jan 9th! It is an absolutely incredible book so if you haven’t bought it yet, go do so now!! You can buy your tickets to the event here!
The second event will be at my Barnes & Noble, in Huntington Beach, CA!! This event will happen on February 15th at 7pm, and will be moderated by Leanne Schwartz! Leanne’s debut, A Prayer For Vengeance, is a YA fantasy with a fierce fat warrior princess heroine and a soft autistic poet hero (plus a fun, feisty cat) and is set in a brutal Ancient Rome inspired world, which came out last September. Her second YA fantasy, To A Darker Shore—featuring a fat autistic inventor heroine, and her best friend a Demi autistic hero, as our FMC literally goes to hell to save him—comes out in April! I promise you, you need both of these books! No tickets required for this event, just show up to hear us talk and get your books signed!
I will also be at Love Ya’ll Book Fest in Atlanta, Georgia February 17th & 18th! I am not attending as an official author, but as an official vendor with my shop Azurose Designs (Also, yes, hi, if you didn’t know I co-own a small business selling bookish merch with my friend Azura! We’ve been open since August 2020 and we sell pins, bookmarks, stickers, and t-shirts). You’ll be able to find me all weekend fangirling over my favorites, and at my vendor booth! I will have books and swag to sell so come stop by and say hi if you’re there! There’s even a sale going on right now for tickets!! You can find those here!
Lastly, have you pre-ordered your copy yet? If not, I’ll provide the links for you below! Pre-orders mean the world, and help me pay off the book so I can afford to publish book 2, lol. Plus, I am running a pre-order campaign! I have the most stunning character art, commissioned from Sophie @dextrose.png of Kenna and her man, seriously I die a little every time I look at this art because it is SO perfect. The character art, along with two perfect quote stickers designed by Kelsey @myblogisgreat are available to anyone who pre-orders, anywhere in the world that USPS ships!! You can submit your pre-order form here!
However, if you order your book directly from my website, you will ALSO get this glorious postcard art of Kenna’s kingdom, Cladach, also designed by Kelsey!
Lastly, if you could add Call of the Sea on your Goodreads, it helps so much with exposure and letting more people know that my book exists. We already his 527 adds, which is more than I hoped for before release day, so from the bottom of my heart THANK YOU if you have already added it!
That is all the news I have for you today! But, keep your eyes peeled cause I will have another very fun newsletter coming this Tuesday as well, and then you won’t hear from me again until release day.
I hope you all are having a wonderful Sunday, speak soon!
Emily
